ONE THING on How to Get Rich in Product

People often tell me that their product exists to make the company money, and that their pay and promotion chances depend on growth. But is that really why we make products? To get rich? Or is business success a side effect of making customers successful?

Perhaps I am naive. If you had the money to retire tomorrow, would you? Or would you still want to solve customer problems? (I’ve often said that when I retire someday I will volunteer to redo airport signage.) Tell me a story.

Last year I spoke at the Business of Software conference, on the topic "How To Tell The Great Ideas From The Merely Good." They have made my video and slides available here. Enjoy.
