Are you willing to pay the price

What are you willing to sacrifice to get to your vision

Many of us have a vision of where we want to get to. I am going to focus on a vision of a product, but I can easily take this into a vision of your career or even your life. The principles are very similar.

Most of us when we try to break the vision into steps focus on what are the things we need to do. What are the steps that will help us execute the vision?

Sacrifices

The truth is that in most cases we should actually ask ourselves the opposite. We should ask ourselves not just what are the things we are willing to do to get there. We should ask ourselves what are we willing to sacrifice.

The list of things we should be willing to sacrifice is endless. It can be amazing deals that don’t take us in the right direction, it can be giving up on ideas that do not serve us, and it can also be giving up on a convenient life because we want to put everything into our vision.

“We are kept from our goal not by obstacles but by a clear path to a lesser goal.”, Robert Brault

Truth

A great vision usually also goes with great truth. You may call it values. Ask yourself what is the truth that leads you. What is the truth that you are willing to give other things for?

Your truth may have many forms. It can be honesty or transparency or a multiple set of principles. If you want to live by it and take it into a great product, it should always be part of your considerations. And you should ask yourself what are the prices you are willing to pay to keep that truth.

Summary

It’s not about what you are willing to do. It’s about what you are willing to sacrifice.

Ask yourself where does your truth lie, and what are you willing to give up for that truth.
