Types of Product Management Courses or Training

I often get asked where one can find product management courses. Ten years ago there were few options and of those options, they were courses developed in the 1990s and were very outdated.

Types of Product Management Courses or Training

Taking courses and getting trained is one of the best ways to get a product manager job and to increase your salary.

Today one can get their product management training in several ways.

These are the different ways you can get product management training:

Sell study through a book or books
Online
Instructor-led classroom
On the job

Self Study Product Management Training

There are a number of product management books out there and one can see them by doing and simple search for product management books on Amazon.

But few of them are comprehensive by covering the entire product management lifecycle.

As a result, I decided and Wiley agreed to publish my 820 pages Successful Product Design and Management Toolkit. It starts with the fundamentals for product success, then covers product market strategy, marketing, soft skills, product engineering, and product support.

Online Product Management Courses

Another way to learn product management is to do them interactively online. While I can’t verify the quality of any of them, mine consists of a PowerPoint style lecture of slides with voice-overs, examples, pre and post-lecture quizzes and a workbook.

Instructor-led Classroom Product Management Training

This is the best way to learn product management in my opinion. Like the able product management courses, I offer them too. You can learn more about them here: https://spicecatalyst.com/workshops/

Outfits like the General Assembly and the Product School have courses in selected cities around the world. However, when I looked at their syllabus a few years ago they tended to treat product market strategy pretty lightly but through in such topics as user interface design in their product management courses.

The advantage of the workbook is if you fill it out and you are looking for a product management job, that workbook could be shown to your hiring manager as a demonstration that you know how to do the job of a product manager.

Alternatively, you could use an in-person or instructor-led classroom product management training like an off-site planning meeting.
