Indian Mythology/Rituals and Modern science

This post is a result of my recent visit to a near by temple. I was going across all the different temples and the matter of this post flashed in my mind as I crossed the NavGraha(Nine planets) temple. I don't know when was the first planet discovered by the modern science but am sure it the nine planets are being worshiped since the very onset of Indian mythology. Sometime back, there was a news that we have got a new planet in our solar system and that Pluto might no longer be considered a Planet. I wonder if the outer space was well explored and documented quite long back by Indians. And after understanding the part played by each planet, the stars, the Sun and the Moon, they are being worshiped since years. At times I feel, most of the Indian Mythology and rituals do have a very strong background and for sure some of these has been proven. Like the antiseptic properties of Turmeric(used as a facial for bride and bride groom before marriage, applied on cuts and wounds etc) and Tulsi, benefits of Yoga and Meditation. Infact, Indian government is in the process of creating a central database of the formulations of Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani to save them from piracy. Checkout this article

I feel that most of the rituals and customs of our culture are somehow linked to God because the Intellectual people who discovered these facts believed that the common man lacks the understanding of the intricacies of the nature and he might not readily believe the facts. But he always believes in God and his powers. This might not be applicable for all the things but a little introspection will make you realize the point am trying to make
