Jay Stansell, founder of Product Coalition

I founded The Product Coalition in 2014, to make mastery of product management globally accessible, for all.

Since then, with the community’s support and guidance, we’ve grown to nearly 500k readers on Medium, we have a Medium following of 17k and a global Slack community of 5,000.

When I look at the analytics, I continuously notice the traffic sourced matches the worlds most developed economies. I’ve decided I’d like to try to assist with that.

As a small experiment from January through to March 2020, in addition to the 500 hours a year I commit to running the publication, Slack community and podcast recordings, I’ll be committing a small chunk of my weekend to virtual mentorship.

To begin with, I’ve decided to offer my time as a mentor, without charge, to product management people who live in the United Nations list of least developed countries (LDCs).

Least developed countries (LDCs) are low-income countries confronting severe structural impediments to sustainable development. They are highly vulnerable to economic and environmental shocks and have low levels of human assets.

I’m unsure if this is the right list, or how I’ll ensure product people from these countries know that I’d like to help. Regardless, with my lean product mindset, I value a bias for action and experimentation, so today is the start.

If you’re reading the above, and you live in one of the nations listed, please reach out to me on the Product Coalition Slack community.

I’ll be sure to share back to you all my learnings, experience and outcomes. If you’ve been inspired by this initiative, please let me know, maybe there’s more power in the crowd that we can leverage?
