There are enough apps in the social media space competing for that one hour free in your calendar. There is a new app on the block called CLUBHOUSE which is an invite-only app. But is the wait for the invite worth it?

The clubhouse provides the comfort space for anyone who doesn’t care about looks and wants to interact on diverse topics at a global level. Clubhouse takes user’s inputs on a variety of topics and then suggests a list of people to follow. Users can join any room based on his interest. As it’s voice-based, there is no pressure to look our best. One can join a room anytime and leave the room quietly based on one’s convenience. The best part is one can be in any room of choice: social media, politics, science, cybersecurity, etc.

In a room, if a user wants to speak he has to raise his hand. The moderator of the room will give the user chance to speak. It is a place where only your voice and thoughts matter. It has the potential to become the next best marketing tool for your business. It is definitely the time to grab the chance to build your profile as an influencer.

The app has a lot to improve when it comes to usability. As a new user, it was tough to find a room that I am interested in. I decided to improve the “Upcoming for you” section with some ideas and opinions collected from the users.

Current design

The overall interface of the “upcoming for you” section is quite overcrowded and unclean. Events of all languages are displayed which makes it difficult for the user to filter out the events. The bell icon for each event is for following all speakers which do not conform to the standard behavior ( one of the 10 usability heuristics).

Accompanying this rough behavior, there are other minor issues like there is no cue to identify the number of speakers in the event. The user has to count the number of icons to know the speakers. The calendar icon at the top right corner which is for creating a new event comes under out of reach when it comes to reachability. The main call to action should appear at the bottom of the screen.

Ideated design

I started by picking the most impacting problem at hand — searching for rooms by the topics I like. The filters on the top can be scrolled to the right. They appear different to different users based on their selected user’s interests and likes.

Each event tile has the time of the event, the title of the event, icons of speakers with a count (if the number of speakers is more than 5). An option to share the event with your friends, category of the event, add the event to the calendar in order to get notifications are visible on the top right corner of each event tile.

The home icon, profile, option to create a new event, and filter the event by language functionality appear at the bottom of the screen which is more reachable for any user (Mobile reachability: Rule of thumb).

Conclusion

I think the above-mentioned redesign can improve the searchability of rooms and improve the user experience.

That said, I would love to hear your thoughts and feedback on my first attempt at redesigning.
