Exhausted, worn thin, and weighed down — that’s where I found myself when I mustered the courage to part ways with my former workplace. After an incredible 8-year stretch, it was time to bid adieu, for the past year and a half had been a relentless struggle.

The Decision to Leave ⏳

The initial thrill had faded, replaced by burnout, stress, and a sense of being undervalued. Friends noticed the change, and while I brushed off their concerns, the storm inside me grew stronger.

Those years had transformed me — honing new skills, cultivating leadership prowess, and nurturing a deep dedication to enhancing user experiences. Yet, a fresh adventure beckoned, and a whisper swelled into a resolute decision. A choice, which I didn’t realise, marked the first step toward setting unwavering boundaries.

Admittedly, it was a turbulent time. Doubts swarmed me like bees. Should I endure the position I’d fallen out of love with while seeking new horizons? Was it wise to remain in a position where my expertise often felt overlooked? The more I pondered, the more my heart leaned towards staying put.

The Power of Choice đź’Ş

But a reflective gaze revealed a different truth. It wasn’t the company that needed to evolve; it was me. I had outgrown my role, and if I yearned to ascend, I had to exit this oppressive environment.

My inner voice, which had long been ignored, found its strength. My values yearned for alignment. My identity craved respect. I needed appreciation and could no longer suppress my true self in this discordant atmosphere. And that realisation was okay.

Perceived as though I had no choice, I eventually recognised the power I held. I left, bid farewell to a beloved career, and embarked on a brief sabbatical. I expected adventures and travels during those initial weeks, but life had a different plan. My body yielded, crashing under the weight of my past exhaustion. Sleep became my solace.

The Journey to Recovery 🌱

Rest, though essential, wasn’t enough. A sense of purpose gnawed at me, a thirst for goals that could anchor my days. As someone accustomed to an active lifestyle, whether at the gym or elsewhere, I needed a new focal point. Yes, I was no athlete, but a commitment to vitality was my compass.

Enter Des, a figure of passion from the Elliot Fitness Academy. Des, with his magnetic energy, guided gym-goers toward better selves. Before my hiatus, he’d already sensed my need for help, sprinkling tips during my workouts. It was as if he had a sixth sense for spotting those seeking transformation. So, Des stepped in when my old chapter closed, and I savoured sleep. He became my guide, illuminating the intricate web of health and fitness.

The journey ahead was an uphill battle, an eye-opening lesson that shattered my illusions. Despite a consistent gym routine, I was far from my goals. The reality check came with an InBody analysis. The numbers weren’t kind. The gut I concealed, and the excess fat I brushed aside were all laid bare. In industry terms, I was skinny fat — high body fat, low muscle mass. A jolt of reality coursed through me. My current approach was ineffective.

Facing the truth, Des and I devised a new strategy. Out with the old, in with the transformative. The conventional path suggested bulking up, but Des dared me to focus on cleansing my system, shedding excess and rebuilding. This venture demanded habit transformation — identity-based habits crafted around who I aimed to become. Whether at the gym or at the dining table, I would live as my desired self.

A shift to this new narrative wasn’t seamless. I questioned, faltered, yet pressed onward. Des anchored me, celebrated my triumphs, and nudged me through failures. The journey became more than physical; it was mental too. I found companionship with fellow travellers at the gym, each on their unique trajectory.

The comparison was my enemy, a distraction. I learned that progress is personal, a journey unique to each soul. And my own evolution unveiled a leaner physique, a swell in confidence, and fresh vitality. Numbers told the tale — weight dropped, muscle grew, the once-dominant fat dwindled, and my physic transformed. But the transformation extended deeper. I uncovered the power to set boundaries, to safeguard my values, and to nurture my sleep.

It’s Never Too Late ⏰

As I embrace this new phase, I’m strengthened by resilience and newfound self-awareness. Des’s guidance reshaped my mindset, shattered misconceptions, and rebuilt me from within. And, when I return to the workforce, I do so with renewed vigour, a more assertive attitude, and a commitment to sustained progress. Des’s mentorship and my journey illustrate that it’s never too late to reclaim your health and remake your reality.
