The Power of Encouragement in Product Teams
As I spent time reflecting on teams I have led and have been a part of as well as what made those teams great or mediocre, a thought popped into my mind. Beyond the basics that make for a good team, what really set ‘the best’ apart? I went through my mental list of characteristics and one interestingly floated to the top — encouragement. Teams that encouraged each other tended to be more successful, at least in my experience.
And as my experience is limited to teams I have been a part of, I widened my lens a bit and looked at sports. Not surprising, I found lots of information that confirmed my theory. Encouragement leads to motivation which leads to success. And we all know motivated teams perform better. So, it seems perhaps I am on to something. Encouragement might be a missing link. So why not spread a little encouragement around your team as you start your day?
