ONE THING on the Narrative

A narrative is a well-thought-out argument that uses precise communication to sell a specific idea. To create one that sticks, treat it like a product: it needs to be designed, built, tested, and iterated. If you get good at creating narratives, you will bring people together.

A friend was building a data analysis product. He tried to sell the marketing team on improving data quality, but they didn’t understand why that was important. He discovered that customers were concerned with “not trusting the numbers,” so he revised his narrative to focus on “customer confidence” instead. Same product improvements, but the new words resonated with the stakeholders.

How’s your narrative? Got good stories? Bad stories? Tell a story.
