The US is very unique in that its UX industry is very advanced thus there are many services and tools that are specifically designed for user research. Occasionally, crowdsourcing sites are used when the target is not as niche. For instance, LINE, a messaging app similar to WhatsApp, is the most dominant service used in Japan.
