First, I observe that product titles and roles vary wildly across companies: there’s no consistency even within a segment. And many executives have never seen good product management.

We made sloppy decisions on hiring because we know we needed someone to fill that role and we’d lower the quality bar so we could get someone in there because we justify to ourselves well, it’s really hard to hire function x here, so this guy I’m sure he’ll be coached to be great. Thinking things through.
