I started my career as a softwareengineer. I then moved into an interaction designer role before there was a UX title. Ideally, this outcome is a two-way negotiation between an executive at the company, often a chief product officer, a chief design officer, a CTO, and the cross-functional product team.
You somehow have to bring together a rowdy bunch of tech professionals (data scientists, UX and UI designers , softwareengineers, etc) and make a valuable and functional product happen.
