As an undergraduate at UPenn, I was originally planning to move into softwareengineering on graduation. So I decided to join Microsoft full time in a PM role upon leaving UPenn. This often ends up being the biggest challenge for MBA students with non-engineering undergraduate backgrounds. What’s your take?
Product-Led Onboarding by Ramli John and Wes Bush is a new book about how to implement user onboarding for the ultimate customer retention. The Mom Test by Rob Fitzpatrick is the ultimate guide to talking to customers as a product manager and includes sample scripts and questions you can directly use in your customer interviews.
This is what you should frame your resume around as this is likely the closest experience you have to being a product manager. It is important to note that most PM job postings ask for prior PM experience. Technical Skills While not always needed, technical skills are very much desired for most PM roles.

Rohit Gossain: I started off my career in 2010 as a technical analyst working with a product manager. At the time, product analytics software didn’t really exist—we were very much relying on Google Analytics. At the time, we were conducting A/B tests, but the metrics were not behavioral, which presented an issue.
I studied mathematics at UCLA, worked 2 summers as a softwareengineering intern at a Series E AdTech startup, and advised Metta World Peace (Ron Artest) as the product manager for his social basketball app, Gradelo. My experience is specific to getting hired through the associate offering manager program (AOM).

Teams are praised whenever they release a new feature (or product) to their customers. Prior to this position, Neil was VP of Engineering, after working as a SoftwareEngineer and leading Infrastructure Engineering. He advised companies like Tinder, Hipcamp, Reddit, Canva, and Pocket.
Finally, the term Development Team seems to limit the role to technical people, for example, softwareengineers. However, in my experience, given proper support by the Scrum Master, even lawyers and marketers can get comfortable with the designation “developer” when utilizing Scrum for their purposes.
