This is a challenging time for each one of us—whether as an individual or as a business. In these difficult times, it is more important than ever to keep a human-first approach in mind for all of our decision-making. Especially in the way we build our products as we touch many human lives with them. Aligning on What Matters. As a Product person, you’re not just responsible for making your boss or board happy, you’re responsible for the success of your users and the wellbeing of your teammates.
In a world of browser-based solutions, experimentation and rapid iteration are sometimes taken for granted. Some products get released multiple times per day or simultaneously present different experiences to various users. But when products must get installed on computers and other devices, there’s only so much tolerance for frequent releases. Users don’t want to download and install updates regularly, plus there’s often no guarantee users will even bother at all with the latest version.
During this uncertain and difficult time, we’re all feeling increased stress and anxiety. They say laughter is the best medicine, and we have our fingers crossed that it works for everything we’re experiencing now, too. Hey, it’s at least worth a shot! That’s why we’ve decided to gather even more instances of product management-related humor.
You will be pleased to hear that this is not another post about COVID-19. It has no tips for working remotely. I have no idea how to entertain your kids while their school is closed. I don’t know why people are panic-buying toilet paper. Instead, and as part of Mind the Product APAC, I want to talk about leveling up product culture in your region – wherever you are in the world and regardless of the product community you find already to be in place.
Speaker: Ben Epstein, Stealth Founder & CTO | Tony Karrer, Founder & CTO, Aggregage
When tasked with building a fundamentally new product line with deeper insights than previously achievable for a high-value client, Ben Epstein and his team faced a significant challenge: how to harness LLMs to produce consistent, high-accuracy outputs at scale. In this new session, Ben will share how he and his team engineered a system (based on proven software engineering approaches) that employs reproducible test variations (via temperature 0 and fixed seeds), and enables non-LLM evaluation m
Every single business and product today will either have a headwind or a tailwind. There are no products that are going business as usual right now. Both types of businesses need to make their amendments fast enough. More. The post Product Management In Corona Times appeared first on NextBigWhat.
One of the biggest challenges facing any product team is internal communication. ProductPlan’s industry research illustrates this point. We surveyed thousands of professionals for our Product Managers in 2020 report. Most of the top challenges these professionals cited had to do with communication: “working with other departments,” “getting consensus on product direction,” “communicating product strategy,” etc.

If you’ve been following customer success blogs recently, a lot has been said and written about how to communicate better and consistently in times of crisis like the one we’re all going through. In these uncertain times, companies (rightly so!) are keeping close tabs on their expenses and cash. Based on research done by Gainsight as well as a few other companies with CEOs, CROs and CCOs, 65–80% of companies have frozen hiring for the next few months and 30–45% have frozen hiring and backfills
At last month’s ProductCraft Conference event in San Francisco, Niels Hoven of Cloudflare talked about a particularly widespread problem in product management. As PMs, we should be seeking the truth. After all, only accurate information can help us build valuable and delightful products. However, some product professionals are moving away from the truth and toward.
As the COVID-19 situation evolves across the globe, we are entering unprecedented times. In the past 15 days, much of the tech world has rapidly transitioned to mandatory remote work. We’re fortunate to have this option when others can no longer work at all. It goes without saying that this is a privilege we should. The role of a product manager is complex. With their responsibilities straddling those of technical, business, and customer-facing roles, no two days are the same. No wonder people refer to them as ‘mini CEOs’ or ‘CEOs of the product.’ Because it’s such a broad and varied role, it’s important that product managers possess a similarly broad and varied skillset.

Over the years Ada and I have both enjoyed being informal career mentors to countless of our friends and colleagues. We were recently reflecting on how dramatically those career conversations have changed as our friends and colleagues have aged from early in their career to mid-career. In many ways, early career conversations were actually far simpler in nature.

Many people talk about “going back to normal.” We aren't going to return to normal. That old normal is gone, at least for a year, if not longer. (I suspect we will cycle between remote work and office work for the foreseeable future.). What we can do is discover a new normal. Discovery requires different skills than delivery. Discovery requires short experiments where we can learn something, maybe every day.
Latest studies note that only 35% of product manager roles are filled by women, and most of those roles are entry-level positions, meaning they are often removed from influential decision making. And that’s to the detriment of organizations that are looking to outperform their competitors. When gender diversity at the executive level is brought to parity, organizations are 15 percent more likely to gain more profit , improve customer experience , and attract and retain expensive talent , accordi
